GOLD
GOLD LEAFING & PHOTOGRAPHY BY KENNY NGUYEN
PARIS, FRANCE I 2020
"...what does it say to viewers today when museums display gleaming white statues? What does it say when the only people of color one is likely to see appear on a ceramic vessel?" - The Myth of Whiteness in Classical Sculpture by Margaret Talbot. Through the use of gold-leafing, this piece explores the queer immigrant body as sculpture. The fragile nature of gold leafing underlies the creation and destruction that coexist in rendering the body as art, and the way in which identity always emerges through the material.
